NAD+ is a coenzyme without which metabolism does not work, and its level in tissues declines with age. From this came a popular idea: if you raise NAD+ with the precursor supplements NMN or NR, you can slow aging. The idea is elegant and backed by striking experiments in mice — but in humans it is far more modest. Studies confirm the supplements raise NAD+ levels, yet that this actually rejuvenates or extends life is not proven. Let us look at it without the hype.
Why there is so much noise around NAD+
The logic is simple and therefore appealing. NAD+ is needed for energy production in cells and for enzymes linked to aging and DNA repair. With age there is less of it. So, in theory, restoring the level to a "young" one could push back age-related changes.
In animals, this logic partly works: in mice, precursor supplements improved metabolism and some age-related markers. It is these experiments, amplified by high-profile books and interviews, that created the market for "anti-aging pills".

The human studies so far are small and short. They say one thing confidently: yes, blood NAD+ can be raised. Are they worth paying for
NMN and NR supplements are not cheap, and the promises around them noticeably outrun the evidence. Treating them as a self-experiment with full awareness of the uncertainty is a personal choice. But they cannot be presented as a "proven longevity strategy".
The sober benchmark: for the same money and effort, things with a firm evidence base do far more for healthy longevity.
