Plant and animal protein differ in two things: amino acid profile and digestibility. Animal proteins are "complete" and better absorbed; many plant proteins are lower in specific amino acids and digest slightly less well. But this difference is overcome by variety and a small increase in amount — and for overall health, a shift toward plant protein is actually linked to benefits. Here it is without the extremes of "meat is poison" or "plants do not fill you up".
Two real differences
Amino acid profile. Protein is made of amino acids, nine of which are essential — you must get them from food. Animal proteins contain them all in favourable proportions, which is why they are called "complete". Many plant proteins are lower in specific amino acids: legumes in methionine, grains in lysine. So a single plant food as your main protein source is not the best idea.
Digestibility. Animal protein is on average digested and absorbed more fully. Plant protein is "packed" in cell walls and fiber, and some passes through. Hence the practical takeaway: on a plant-based diet, the total protein target is raised by about 10%.

For muscle
For muscle growth, what matters is not only the amount of protein but leucine — the amino acid that triggers muscle protein synthesis. Animal sources have more of it and a more complete profile, so "per gram" they are slightly more effective. But this is no verdict against a plant-based diet: you can build muscle on it by eating a bit more total protein, keeping variety and, if needed, using concentrates — soy or pea protein are close to complete in their amino acid profile.

Extremes are not needed.
